Panthers Shatter Three School Record on Third Day of Minnesota Invite

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Pittsburgh swimming program posted three school record breaking swims during the third night of finals at the Minnesota Invite, Friday evening. Sophie Yendell crushed her 100 Fly record and Claire Jansen shattered her own record in the 100 Back. The women's 400 Medley Relay also added their names to the record breaking list this evening.
Pitt had a stellar morning of swims in the preliminary round - having 31 swimmers secure a spot in the finals with Yendell kicking off the finals for the Panthers. She finished in second overall with her time of 52.08 to secure the new program record. Freshman Sydney Gring found herself in the top ten this evening – finishing in ninth with her time of 53.10.
The men posted strong swims in the 400 IM with Max Matteazzi taking second overall – clocking in at 3:46.99. Michal Piela was not far behind – finishing with his time of 3:47.41 to take fourth.
Jansen keeps her name on the 100 Back school record with a new time of 52.15 – finishing in second overall. On the men's side, Krzysztof Radziszewski claimed second (46.23), Stepan Goncharov took fourth (46.94) and Marcin Goraj secured seventh (47.68) in the 100 Back.
The Panthers topped off the evening the only way they know how – breaking more school records. The women's 400 Medley Relay team of Jansen, Jessica Strong, Yendell and Gring secured fifth place overall with their record-breaking time of 3:36.10. The men's team of Radziszewski, Jerry Chen, Goraj and Dominic Toledo secured fifth place in the 400 Medley Relay with their time of 3:09.43.
