Yendell Wins 50 Free, Panthers Post five Top-5 Finishes at Minnesota Invite

MINNEAPOLIS – Sophie Yendell won the 50 Free with a time of 22.03 as the Panthers posted five Top-5 finishes during the second day of the Minnesota Invite at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center, Thursday night.
Pitt had 20 swimmers qualify for the finals as Yendell, Sydney Gring, Max Matteazzi, and both men's and women's 200 Free Relay teams picked up top 5 finishes. Gring took second in the 200 IM with a best-time of 1:58.70. Matteazzi continued his momentum from the prelims and finishes fourth overall in the 200 IM with a time of 1:44.47.
The women's 200 Free Relay team of Yendell, Claire Jansen, Gring, and Avery Kudlac finished fourth with a time of 1:30.06 as the men's team of Stepan Goncharov, Dominic Toledo, Krzysztof Radziszewski and Marcin Goraj finished fourth with a time of 1:18.84.
On Wednesday night, the Panthers finished in the top-10 in each of the opening relays and saw improvement in times from last season in each of the relay teams. The women's 200 Medley Relay team of Claire Jansen, Jessica Strong, Sophie Yendell, and Avery Kudlac finished third (1:36.92) while the men's relay teams claimed fourth and fifth place. The team of Krzysztof Radziszewski, Jerry Chen, Marcin Goraj, and Dominic Toledo finished fourth (1:25.07) and the team of Stepan Goncharov, Max Matteazzi, Drew Jalbert, and Guy Frimis came in fifth (1:26.03).
In the 800 Free Relay, the women's team of Sydney Gring, Kudlac, Tara Culibrk and Emily Bucaro came in sixth (7:15.78) and the men's team of Goraj, Matteazzi, Goncharov and Frimis finished fifth (6:24.43).

The Panthers are back in action at the Minnesota Invite Friday, December 1. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals set to start at 6 p.m.
