PITTSBURGH – Pitt faces Oregon State Friday, Nov. 24 in the third place game of the NIT Season Tip-Off. Opening tip is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with Kevin Brown and Fran Fraschilla calling the action on ESPN2.
THE OPENING TIP
- The Panthers are 6-3 all-time in the NIT Season Tip-Off (formerly Preseason NIT). The Panthers appeared in the event during the 1991-92 and 2012-13 seasons.
- Pitt has dropped four consecutive games at the Barclays Center and is now 4-7 all-time at the venue.
- Blake Hinson is tied for second in the ACC in scoring (19.6 ppg.) and tied for third in three-point field goals (16 3FG) for the season. He has scored 18 or more points and made three or more three-pointers in each of the past four contests.
- Carlton Carrington has been named ACC Rookie of the Week in each of the first two weeks of the season. The 6-5 guard is averaging 17.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.4 assists with shooting splits of .509/.471/.750 through the first five games of his career.
- Ishmael Leggett scored a season-high 19 points to go along with nine rebounds Wednesday against Florida. He has grabbed seven or more rebounds in four consecutive games and is averaging 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.3 steals per game in that span.
PANTHER SPOTLIGHTS
- Ishmael Leggett leads ACC guards in rebounding at 8.2 rpg. He has led the Panthers in rebounding in three of the past four games grabbing seven or more boards in all four contests.
- Blake Hinson has made at least one three-pointer in 18 consecutive games and in 39 of 41 games as a Panther. He is 113-of-298 (.379) from three-point range at Pitt.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Ishmael Leggett has started 74 consecutive games with 48 double figure scoring efforts in that stretch. He has scored 10 or more points in 33 of his past 36 games and is averaging 15.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game this season.
- Federiko Federiko has blocked two or more shots in each of the first five games of the season. He leads the ACC (T-7th in the NCAA) in blocks (3.0 bpg.), while also averaging 6.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game (3.2 orpg.).
- Zack Austin has made 60 or more threes and blocked 60 or more shots in each of the past two seasons. He and Duke’s Shane Battier (2000, 2001) are the only two players to accomplish that feat in multiple seasons. Austin is currently averaging 6.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game.
- Carlton Carrington leads the ACC in assists (6.4 apg.), while also ranking among the league leaders in scoring (T-13th - 17.2 ppg.), three-point field goals (T-3rd - 3.2 3PG), field goal percentage (T-11th - .509), and three-point field goal percentage (4th - .471).
- Twins Guillermo Diaz Graham and Jorge Diaz Graham combine to average 14.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 24-of-41 (.585) from the field, including 9-of-20 (.450) from three-point range.
- The Panthers rank second in the NCAA in rebounds per game (49.4 rpg.) and third in rebound margin (+18.4). Ishmael Leggett (8.2 rpg.), Federiko Federiko (7.0 rpg.), Zack Austin (6.2 rpg.), Guillermo Diaz Graham (5.8 rpg.), Blake Hinson (5.2 rpg.), Carlton Carrington (5.2 rpg.), and are each averaging at least 5.0 rebounds per game.
- Pitt is averaging 11.0 three-point field goals per game (T-11th in the NCAA) with Blake Hinson and Carlton Carrington combining for 32 of the team’s 55 threes. The Panthers have outscored the opposition 165-96 from beyond the arc over the first four games.
- Friday’s game marks the second of five consecutive contests against Power Six conference teams for the Panthers. Pitt returns home to host Missouri in the ACC-SEC Challenge Tuesday, Nov. 27 following the conclusion of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
- The Panthers rank 12th in the NCAA in scoring at 90.6 points per game. Pitt has topped the 100-point mark twice on the season, marking the first time it has accomplished that feat since the 2015-16 campaign.
