PITTSBURGH – Brandin Cummings and Amdy Ndiaye have signed national letters of intent to join the Pitt Men's Basketball program, head coach Jeff Capel announced Friday morning..
"We are excited to add Brandin and Amdy to our program," said Capel. "Both of them are high-character prospects who love to be in the gym and fit the culture of Pitt Basketball. They will both have an opportunity to impact winning here at Pitt."
Cummings, a four-star guard prospect from nearby Lincoln Park High School, was a Pittsburgh Post Gazette Fab 5 and 4A Co-Player of the Year selection after averaging 23.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game as a junior. He made 75 three-point field goals while helping the Leopards to WPIAL and PIAA Class 4A titles a year ago. Cummings, the younger brother of Pitt standout Nelly Cummings, enters his senior season at Lincoln Park with 1,482 points and 186 three-pointers in his career.
Cummings had a strong summer on the Nike EYBL circuit with All-Ohio Red. He garnered Second Team All-EYBL Session III honors after averaging 19.7 points per game in Dallas. He finished the EYBL circuit averaging 19.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. Cummings, a top five player in the Pennsylvania rankings, is rated No. 127 by 247Sports and No. 135 by Rivals.
"Brandin is a dynamic guard who can really put the ball in the basket," said Capel. "We have been able to develop a great relationship with him and his family and look forward to watching him continue to develop here at Pitt. He has been a part of an outstanding high school program and will bring a winning pedigree with him. Brandin's style of play is a little different than his brother Nelly's, but they are both extremely skilled with great intangibles and a tireless work ethic."
Ndiaye, a three-star prospect currently playing a prep year at Putnam Science Academy, was a NYSSWA All-State selection last season after helping Long Island Lutheran to a 24-3 record, including a 10-2 mark in the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference. The 6-10, 215-pound froward averaged 8.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game in conference play as LUHI finished the year ranked No. 3 nationally. Ndiaye, a versatile, high-ceiling player with the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor, also shot 35 percent from three-point range a year ago.
One of the fastest rising prospects in the country, Ndiaye played AAU basketball with the NY Jayhawks. He also played in France with junior team Nanterre and was a member of the Senegalese National Team for the 2021 FIBA U18 African Cup.
"Amdy is a versatile inside-out player whose recruitment really took off over the past year," said Capel. "He fits our system extremely well with his ability to guard multiple positions on the floor as well as be an efficient offensive weapon out of the pick and roll or pick and pop. He plays with great energy and is another guy who always wants to be in the gym."
Pitt can return 10 of its current 12 scholarship players from the 2023-24 roster with Blake Hinson and Michael Hueitt, Jr., the only players who will exhaust their collegiate eligibility this season.
