
Pitt Falls In Double Overtime To Louisville In ACC Championship First Round, 2-1

PITTSBURGH – Despite a late rally, the Pitt men's soccer team (6-6-4, 2-3-2 ACC) fell on Wednesday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field in the First Round of the ACC Championship to No. 9 Louisville, 2-1, in double overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED – FIRST HALF
- Cabral Carter came up with a big stop just two minutes in as a Louisville winger got in free and ripped a hard shot that Carter grabbed
- Pitt had a great chance in the 21st minute as Guilherme Feitosa got free inside the box but his hard low shot was kicked away by the Louisville keeper to keep the game tied, 0-0
- The two teams exchanged chances late in the first half but neither broke through with the first goal as they entered the locker room knotted, 0-0
HOW IT HAPPENED – SECOND HALF
- The Cardinals had the first shot on target in the second half in the 64th minute but Carter was up to the challenge, making a nice stop
- In the 67th minute, Filip Mirkovic had a good chance from distance but the Louisville keeper poked the shot just wide of the goal for a corner
- Pitt had their best chance of the half in the 74th minute as Joao Souza fed Feitosa right in front of the net but his hard shot was saved by the keeper who came off his line nicely to make the kick save
- The final chance of the half came in the 81st minute as Mirkovic took a hard shot from distance that went through the keepers hands but dribble just wide of the right corner and out of play
- The two teams went to overtime tied, 0-0
OVERTIME
- Carter was asked to make the first save of the overtime in the 93rd minute as he came out and smothered a shot by the Cardinals
- The best chance of the first overtime period came in the 96th minute as Thorsen got free and took a shot that was stopped by the diving keeper
SECOND OVERTIME
- The Cardinals broke through with the first goal of the match in the 103rd minute as Damien Barker John sent a cross into the box and Mason Tatafu found the back of the net on the back post for his first of the season
- Just over a minute later, the Cardinals took the 2-0 lead on a fluke goal from midfield. Damien Barker John gathered a lost ball by Pitt and fired a shot from distance which went over the outstretched arms of Carter who was up high and off the line as Pitt was pressing forward
- The Panthers responded quickly with a goal of their own in the 106th minute as Souza finished off a great feed from Eben McIntyre for his fourth of the season. After the goal, Louisville was awarded a red card and finished the match with 10 players after a skirmish in the goal
- Pitt had a couple chances in the final two minutes for the tying goal but couldn't break through, falling 2-1 to the Cardinals

- For the match, Pitt held the 22-13 edge in shots and the 10-2 advantage in corner kicks
- The Panthers had four players, Thorsen, Feitosa, Mirkovic and Maillefaud, with a game-high four shots in the loss
