
Verdi, King & Washenitz To Represent Pitt At ACC Tipoff In Charlotte

PITTSBURGH – The first event of the 2023-24 basketball season is set to officially commence Tuesday, October 24 as the Atlantic Coast Conference hosts the Women's Basketball Tipoff event at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown in Charlotte, NC. For the third straight season, the men's and women's events will be held on consecutive days with the women on Oct. 24 and the men on Oct. 25.
Head Coach Tory Verdi will be joined in Charlotte by senior forward Liatu King and sophomore guard Marley Washenitz. This marks the first Tipoff for both players.
King, a two-year starter at forward, returns to Pitt following her best collegiate season last year where she averaged a career-high 9.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks across an average of 23.7 minutes per game. The Washington, DC native ranked fourth in the ACC in blocks (1.4 bpg), fifth in rebounding (7.6 rpg) and 11th in field goal percentage (39.4%) during her junior campaign. She also led the Panthers with six double-doubles on the year including a career-best performance in the win over North Alabama as she netted 26 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks.
Washenitz, a sophomore point guard, made an immediate impact on the Panthers during her freshman campaign in 2022-23. The talented floor general appeared in 28 games while making 16 starts in her first season. She capped the season averaging 3.3 points, 1.5 assists and 1.3 rebounds to go along with 25 steals while providing the Panthers' with a spark each and every time she touched the floor.
ACC Network will be live from the ACC Tipoff in Charlotte, for two days of expansive coverage which includes interviews with Verdi, King and Washenitz on Tuesday afternoon. The 24/7 national network dedicated to ACC sports will provide the event's most robust television coverage to date.
