
#11 Pitt Set For Road Test Friday Night at Virginia

PITTSBURGH – Looking to push their unbeaten streak to four straight matches, the Pitt men's soccer team (5-3-3, 2-1-2 ACC) hits the road Friday night to take on the Virginia Cavaliers at Klöckner Stadium. Friday's match will air live on ACC Network at kick at 7:00 pm.

THE SERIES VS. VIRGINIA
- This meeting marks the 16th all-time between the two programs with the Cavaliers holding the 9-4-2 advantage in the series.
- Virginia has won the last two meetings including a 1-0 victory last season in the ACC Tournament.
- The Cavaliers are 5-3-1 all-time against Pitt in Charlottesville but the Panthers have won three of the last five meetings on the road in Virginia.
- The last win in the series for Pitt came in 2021 as they collected a 5-0 home win over the Cavaliers.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
- Virginia owns a 6-3-3 overall record and a 2-2-1 ACC mark on the season as they are unbeaten in their past four matches.
- The Cavaliers are coming off a 1-1 draw at Boston College on Friday. They have collected ACC wins over Louisville and NC State so far this season.
- The Cavaliers are being led offensively by Stephen Annor Gyamfi who ranks second in the ACC with seven goals (three game-winners) on 20 shots. Mouhameth Thiam has accumulated two goals and three assists on 14 shots while Paul Wiese has a team-high four assists off the bench.
- In goal, the Cavailers have played a pair of keepers. Holden Brown has earned a 4-2-1 overall record with a 1.14 goals-against average and two clean sheets while Joey Batrouni has posted a 2-1-2 record with a 1.00 goals-against average with two clean sheets.
LAST TIME OUT VS. VIRGINIA TECH
- The Panthers put together a huge second half Friday night as they netted three goals to earn the 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Virginia Tech at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
- Trailing 1-0 in the 78th minute, Jackson Gilman tied the match as he headed home his second of the season off of a perfect corner by Filip Mirkovic. Just over three minutes later, Raphael Cilli netted his first career goal, an eventual game-winner, into the left corner to give the Panthers the 2-1 lead.
- Guilherme Feitosa put a bow on the game in the 85th minute as he netted a highlight reel goal with his back heel to secure the 3-1 home win.
- For the match, Pitt held the 17-13 edge in shots and the 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
- In goal, Cabral Carter made a career-high eight saves as he secured his fifth win of the season.
SECOND HALF DOMINATION
- One of the strengths of this Pitt squad so far this season has been their ability to make changes at halftime and own the second half of play.
- So far this season, Pitt owns a 13-5 edge in second half scoring.
- Last time out in the win over Virginia Tech, the Panthers netted three second half goals in under eight minutes to secure the home win.
- Pitt has outscored their opponent six times in the second half this season. They are 5-0-1 on the season when they win the scoring battle in the second 45 minutes.
- The Panthers are 0-3 when they are outscored in the second half of games.
- Pitt has outscored their opponents 12-2 in the second half in home matches at Ambrose Urbanic Field this season. They own a 5-1-2 record on their home turf.
MIRKOVIC SETS PROGRAM RECORD FOR CAREER ASSISTS VS. VT
- Senior midfielder Filip Mirkovic has developed into one of the most dangerous and creative players in the country during his time as a Panther.
- Mirkovic has started all 10 matches he's appeared in (red card suspension vs. Howard) and has produced a team-high eight assists and 19 shots (seven on goal) in 852 minutes of work. His eight assists leads the ACC and ranks fourth in the NCAA.
- Last time out in the win over Virginia Tech, Mirkovic recorded an assist on Gilman's header goal to break the school record for assists in a career with 27. He broke Eric Prex's school record for career assists that stood since 1994.
- In the win over FDU, Mirkovic had a performance to remember as he secured a program single game record tying four assists in the 5-1 win. The four assists tied a school and ACC single game record as he became just the third ACC players in the past 30 seasons to notch a four-assist match.
- The multi-assist game marked his sixth of his career (all coming in the past two seasons).
- His 27 career assists ranks 2nd in the NCAA among active players. He is just one assist behind Willem Ebbinge (Harvard) for most among active players in the nation (28).
- In 2022, Mirkovic was great as he started 20 matches and posted three goals, a team-high and ACC-leading 12 assists and 18 points while adding 38 shots. He ranked 1st in the ACC in assists (12) and 6th in total points (18). He also capped his junior campaign ranked 7th in the NCAA in assists per game (0.60).
- The senior brings loads of experience to the field for the Panthers as he has appeared in 69 matches and started 65. He has posted nine goals, 27 assists and 45 points to go along with 98 shots in four years of action for Pitt.
