
Pitt Battles Louisville To Final Whistle; Falls 76-69 On The Road Sunday

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Pitt women's basketball team (7-9, 0-5 ACC) battled tough on the road Sunday afternoon but came up just short, falling 76-69 to the Louisville Cardinals at the KFC YUM! Center. Louisville improves to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in ACC play.
Amber Brown finished off her monster game with 20 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three assists while going 6-for-9 from the floor in the loss. Liatu King finished her afternoon with 12 points and eight boards while Marley Washenitz had a career-high 10 points, two blocks and two rebounds for Pitt in the loss.

FIRST QUARTER
- The Cardinals took the early 8-4 lead after a triple but the Panthers responded as Gabby Hutcherson knocked down a triple and Maliyah Johnson buried a pull-up jumper to give Pitt the 9-8 lead at the media timeout.
- The Cardinals took the 10-9 lead out of the media timeout but the Panthers took over the final three minutes.
- The Panthers outscored Louisville 9-2 down the stretch of the quarter as Avery Strickland capped the scoring with a deep triple to give Pitt the 18-12 lead through 10 minutes.
- Amber Brown opened the quarter with a layup and free throw and Strickland netted her second triple of the game to give Pitt the 24-14 just over a minute in.
- The Panthers netted back-to-back buckets by Liatu King and Dayshanette Harris as they pushed their lead out to the largest of the half, 32-21.
- The Cardinals netted the final five points of the quarter to send the game to halftime with Pitt leading by six, 32-26.
- The Panthers held the Cardinals to just 25% shooting in the opening half while also holding the 20-18 lead in rebounds.
- Marley Washenitz opened the scoring in the third with a great drive and finish in traffic, but the Cardinals responded with six straight to force a timeout by Pitt as the Panthers held the 34-32 lead.
- The Cardinals gained the 40-38 lead just over three minutes into the quarter, but Washenitz and Strickland responded with back-to-back triples to give the Panthers the 44-43 lead at the media timeout.
- Louisville pushed their lead out to five, 53-48, but Brown ended the quarter with a free throw to send the game to the fourth with Pitt trailing 53-49.
- The Panthers were outscored 27-17 in the third quarter as Louisville made five triples in the quarter.
- The Cardinals jumped out to a seven-point lead, 58-51, early in the fourth but the Panthers came right back with a King jumper and Washenitz triple to send the game to the media break with Pitt trailing 58-56.
- After a layup and free throw by Johnson and a layup by Brown, the Panthers were able to gain a 63-60 lead midway through the quarter.
- The Cardinals tied the game with a triple but Brown came right back with a pair of layups to give the Panthers the 67-63 lead with three minutes to go.
- Pitt wasn't able to slow the Cardinals down over the final three minutes as they outscored Pitt 9-2 to earn the home victory, downing Pitt 76-69.
- Pitt shot 42.1% from the floor while they held the Cardinals to 39.1% in the loss.
- Pitt held the 40-35 edge in rebounds while the Cardinals grabbed 14 offensive boards in the win.
- Pitt outscored Louisville 32-18 in the paint while the Cardinals bench outscored Pitt 21-11.
