SYRACUSE, NY – The Pitt women's basketball team (7-8, 0-4 ACC) dropped their third straight game Thursday night on the road to the Syracuse Orange at the JMA Wireless Dome, 89-71. With the win, Syracuse improved to 11-4 overall and 2-2 in the ACC.

Amber Brown and Liatu King combined to score 38 points in the road loss. Brown finished off her career night with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists while King netted 17 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

FIRST QUARTER

The Panthers came out quick as they led 7-2 just over a minute into the game as Amber Brown netted a pair of free throws, Avery Strickland buried a corner triple and Maliyah Johnson hit a mid-range jumper.
The Orange responded with a 12-2 run to take the 14-9 lead at the first quarter media timeout.
Liatu King beat the shot clock for the final bucket of the quarter for Pitt as they went to the second quarter trailing 19-13.

SECOND QUARTER

After King opened the quarter with a jumper, the Orange scored the next six to push their lead to 25-15.
Strickland knocked down her second three of the game, Syracuse scored six straight to take the 31-20 lead midway through the quarter.
Over the final five minutes, Pitt went on a 19-4 run as Aislin Malcolm came off the bench and knocked down three triples while King finished off a pair of layups. Pitt claimed the 39-33 lead through 20 minutes.
Pitt outscored Syracuse 26-14 in the second quarter, marking their highest scoring second quarter of the season.

THIRD QUARTER

Brown extended the Pitt lead to eight, 41-33, with a layup to start the scoring in the third before the Orange were able to cut the lead down to three, 43-40, two minutes in.
Gabby Hutcherson came off the bench and netted five straight for Pitt as the two teams went to the media timeout knotted, 48-48.
Out of the timeout, Syracuse used a 9-0 run to push their lead to 57-48 late in the quarter before King netted a free throw and Brown grabbed an offensive rebound and made the layup.
Pitt entered the fourth trailing Syracuse 57-51.

FOURTH QUARTER

Pitt got within two, 57-55, as Brown and King opened the quarter with back-to-back layups.
After a Marley Washenitz layup ended a Syracuse run to make it 61-57, the Orange pushed their lead out to 11, 72-61, at the media timeout as Kyra Wood finished off a layup and free throw.
The Orange took control of the game out of the media timeout as they secured the 89-71 home victory.

TEAM STATS

Pitt shot 41.8% from the floor and 33.3% from behind the arc while the Orange shot 51.5% from the floor and 32.3% from deep.
The two teams were knotted in rebounding, 37-37. Pitt grabbed 17 offensive rebounds and scored 19 second chance points in the loss.
Syracuse held the 31-1 lead in fast break scoring in the game.

Pitt returns to the road Sunday as they travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals. Sunday's game will tip at 2:00 pm and air live on ACC Network.
