Pitt Track & Field Shatter Records at the Lenny Lyles Invitational This Weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky- The Panthers closed out the two-day meet with top-10 performances, facility, and personal records this weekend at the Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center. The two-day meet ran from Friday, Jan. 27 until Saturday, Jan. 28.
"We're continuing to get better with each opportunity," stated head coach Alonzo Webb. "It was important for us to compete in this meet because it gave us a chance to see the facility that we will be competing in at the ACC championships at the end of February, plus see a few other ACC teams."
Day 1
In the women's pentathlon, Lydia Bottelier posted a facility record with a first-place finish collecting 3980 points. Bottelier currently holds the third-best finish in program history. Ilse Steigenga posted a facility record in the women's pent long jump with a second-place finish with 3975 points which bumped her up to fourth best in program history.
Next, sophomore Winnie Incorvaia broke the facility record with a first-place finish in the women's 5000m, crossing the finish line at 17:01. Her time sits as the ninth-fastest time in program history.
On the men's side of the 5000m, Peyton Geehrer placed fourth with a time of 14:58.33.
In the men's 60m, Stephon Brown recorded a personal best after finishing second with a time of 6.65 and remains second-best in program history. Freshman Che Nwabuko secured a personal best finish with a time of 6.71 and clutched the third-best time in program history.
On the women's side of the 60m race, Imani Clark notched sixth place and added her name to the record book with a ninth-best time in program history. Freshman Aleksandra Stoilova placed eighth with a time of 7.60.
On the field, senior Clement Campbell recorded the third-best finish after marking 23-09.00 (7.24m) in the men's long jump.
In the women's weight throw, Foluke Olujide-Ajibade placed 11th with a mark of 60-00.25 (18.29m).
Day 2
In the men's mile, Luke Henseler notched eighth with a time of 4:10.58 while Luke Simpson finished strong to secure tenth place with a time of 4:11.45.
On the field, Eva Baldursdottir recorded a personal best in the women's high jump with a mark of 5-08.75 (1.75m) which bumped her up to fifth-best in program history.
Felix Wolter claimed a second-place finish in the men's heptathlon with 5847 points.
Back on the track, senior Imani Clark recorded a sixth-place finish with a time of 24.16 and added her name to the record book with an eighth-best in program history in the women's 200m.
On the men's side of the 200m, Nigel Hussey claimed fourth with a time of 21.33 which put him at seventh-best in program history.
In the women's 4x400m, Nikki Scherer, Imani Clark, Caleia Johnson, and Lydia Bottelier claimed third overall with a facility record time of 3:42.60.
The Panthers capped the meet with the men's 4x400m by placing second overall with a time of 3:11.80 taking home the facility record.
"This weekend was what we consider the start of the championship season so we're looking for a championship effort, energy, focus, and a sense of urgency," stated Webb. "Many personal bests were achieved, and our All-Time Top Ten performance lists continue to be updated which indicates that our team is improving."

The Panthers will return to the track Feb. 10-11 as they compete in the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson.
