
Panthers Claim Three First-Place Titles

RALEIGH, NC — The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (3-5, 0-2 EAGL) falls to NC State and George Washington on Saturday evening at the Reynolds Coliseum.
Panthers claim three title wins from this evening's meet. Freshmen Kennedy Duke and sophomore Sidney Washington tie for the first-place title on vault with their score of a 9.900. Natalia Pawlak secures the first-place title on bars and sophomore Hallie Copperwheat earns the first-place title in the all-around with her score of 39.350.
"The team finished really strong, which is something I am really proud of them for," said head coach Samantha Snider. "The team is ready to get back to the gym to iron out details. We are excited for the upcoming opportunity next weekend at Ball State to continue to improve."
BEAM
Sophomore Jordyn Ewing started the evening off strong with her routine on beam, scoring a 9.800. Copperwheat started her evening with power on beam, earning a 9.825 en route to her all-around score of 39.350. The Panthers finished the rotation, earning a 48.400.
FLOOR
The Panthers finished the second rotation with solid routines. Copperwheat continued her route to the all-around with her floor routine, scoring a 9.825. Washington anchored the event for Pitt, earning a 9.875 – the highest for Pitt on floor this evening. Pitt finished the second rotation with a 48.550.
VAULT
Duke and Washington tied for the first-place title on vault with a 9.900. Duke earned her career-high this evening. Senior Ciara Ward posted a strong score, earning a 9.825. The Panthers finished with their highest rotation score of the meet, earning a 49.200.
BARS
The Panthers completed tonight's meet on bars. Pawlak earned the first-place title, scoring a 9.925 – her career-high. Copperwheat completed the all-around and finished with a 9.900 on bars. The Panthers finished the evening's event with a 195.150.

Pitt will continue their road journey to Muncie, IN for a quad meet against Ball State, Fisk, and Southeast Missouri State on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
