PITTSBURGH – Jamarius Burton was named ACC Co-Player of the Week, along with Clemson's Hunter Tyson, following a career best performance in a 76-74 win over No. 25 North Carolina Dec. 30.
Burton scored a career-high 31 points on 14-of-17 shooting from the field in the win over North Carolina. He converted three three-point plays and added six rebounds as the Panthers moved to 3-0 in the ACC for the first time since the 2015-16 season. The Charlotte, N.C., native made his first seven shots of the second half and had 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field after intermission.
Burton has scored in double figures in 11 of 12 games played and is one of just two players in the NCAA averaging better than 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game, while shooting over 55 percent from the field.
Burton along with teammate Blake Hinson have received ACC Co-Player of the Week in each of the past two weeks, marking the first time Panther teammates have claimed conference player of the week accolades in consecutive weeks since Nov. 29, 2004 and Dec. 6, 2004 when Chevon Troutman and Carl Krauser earned Big East POTW recognition.
Michael Young (Nov. 14 & 21, 2016) and Justin Champagnie (Jan. 18 & 25, 2021) earned back-to-back ACC Player of the Week honors during their careers.
