Panthers Use Three-Point Shooting to Post 75-54 Win At Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY – Greg Elliott knocked down five of Pitt's season-high 14 three-point field goals and the Panthers scored 25 points off 17 Louisville turnovers en route to a 75-54 win at Louisville Wednesday evening. Pitt collected its first win at the KFC YUM! Center to improve to 13-6 on the season and 6-2 in the ACC.
Elliott finished with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range, while Nike Sibande knocked down his first four threes of the game en route to a 12-point night off the bench.
Jamarius Burton recorded his first double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high matching 11 assists as the Panthers stopped every Louisville run with timely execution and shooting. The Panthers shot 49.1 percent from the field for the game and made seven threes in each half to post its largest scoring margin in an ACC road win.
After a back-and-forth opening to the game, Pitt used an 13-0 inside a 19-2 spurt over a five and a half minute span to grab a 29-16 lead with 6:31 left in the half. The Panthers made five consecutive threes during the run with Sibande knocking down three and Guillermo Diaz Graham and Nate Santos coming off the bench to bury threes from the top of the key off assists by Sibande. Diaz Graham capped off the run with a two-hand slam off a pick and roll from the top of the key.
Louisville hit a pair of threes late in the half to trim the double-figure deficit to seven before Elliott hit a pull up jumper in the closing seconds of play for a 37-28 Panther advantage.
Pitt went up by 12 in the second half on an Elliott three at the 12:18 mark and got a double-digit edge for all but one possession the rest of the way. Consecutive threes by Hinson and Elliott in the final 90 seconds of play against the Louisville press resulted in the final 21-point margin.
STRONGEST START IN ACC
Pitt moved to 6-2 in ACC play to match its best eight-game start since its inaugural season in the ACC (2013-14). The Panthers moved to 4-1 in ACC road games, also matching its best five-game start in ACC road contests.
THREE-POINT PROWESS
The Panthers hit a season-high matching 14 threes with Elliott (5) and Sibande (4) combining for nine triples. The 14 threes are tied for the second most in a game in program history. Pitt has now made 10 or more threes in a game for the ninth time this season.
BURST FROM THE BENCH
Pitt reserves spearheaded a big first half surge scoring 17 points, including five consecutive threes, during a 19-2 run. Sibande knocked down four consecutive threes to finish the half with 12 points and two assists, while Guillermo Diaz Graham contributed five points, five rebounds and a block in the opening half.
Pitt finished with a 23 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists off the bench.
SIBANDE JOINS ELITE COMPANY
Sibande finished with 12 points to push his career scoring total to 1,704 and become the fifth active player in NCAA Division I with 1,700+ points, 600+ rebounds, and 200+ three-point field goals in a career.
