Softball Takes Fall Game Against Davis & Elkins

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh Softball team came out victorious, 12-4, over Davis & Elkins in its first fall game of the season Sunday afternoon at Vartabedian Field.
Graduate student Yvonne Whaley got the off to a quick start with a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the first inning, putting the Panthers up 1-0. The Senators answered in the second with a two-run, go-ahead homer by Jules Gutierrez.
The Panther bats were hot over the next three innings, rallying for six runs in three frames.
The Pitt pitching staff of Abby Edwards, Kendall Brown, Dani Drogemuller and Adriana Romano held the Senators to four runs on three hits over a combined 10 innings. In 3.0 innings of work, Drogemuller did not allow a hit or a run while striking out two. Romano pitched 2.0 inning and ended the game by striking out the side.
The Panthers are back in action Sunday, Oct. 2, with a double-header against Saint Francis. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two slated to start at 3 p.m.
Admission to Vartabedian Field is free for all ages.
