Pitt Baseball 2022 Collegiate Summer League Recap

PITTSBURGH - The summer collegiate baseball circuit saw the Pitt baseball program represented across four leagues. As the first week of classes and fall workouts wrap up at Pitt, here's a look back at how the Panthers' returning players for 2022-23 performed during the summer months.
Kyle Demi
League: Valley
Team: Strasburg Express
Notes: Demi enjoyed a strong season with Strasburg, garnering selection to the North Division roster for the 2022 Valley Baseball League All-Star Game and then All-Valley North Division Team honors at the conclusion of the season. He went 1-0 with four saves in 15 appearances out of the bullpen, notching a 1.13 ERA (0.81 regular season) and striking out 30 over 24 innings of work. His final seven games in Strasburg saw him fan 17 batters in 12 innings.
Will Droll
League: Valley
Team: Strasburg Express
Notes: Droll joined his Pitt teammate Demi in the Strasburg bullpen, going 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA and 19 strikeouts across 12 games and 16.2 innings. He struck out a season-high four batters in just 1.1 innings of relief against Purcellville on June 25th.
Dom Popa
League: Valley
Team: New Market Rebels
Notes: Popa hit .274 in 36 games with the Rebels, providing his club with 31 hits, including five doubles and a triple. He tallied 16 runs scored, 16 runs driven in and 14 walks. He also stole 10 bases. Popa finished the summer season on a 10-game hitting streak that included three multi-hit efforts, highlighted by a three-hit performance against Purcellville on July 13.
Luke Lambert
League: Valley
Team: New Market Rebels
Notes: Lambert joined Popa on the New Market roster, seeing action in 22 games and collecting three doubles, two home runs and nine RBI.
Josh Overbeek
League: Perfect Game
Team: Amsterdam Mohawks
Notes: Overbeek saw action in 43 games for Amsterdam, hitting .239 with 26 hits, including four doubles. He scored 30 runs, drove in 15 and walked 25 times. He also swiped nine bases. Overbeek helped the Mohawks put together an impressive 39-6 season in which they won the club's sixth Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League title by overcoming Batavia in the championship series, 2-1.
Quin Konuszewski
League: Perfect Game
Team: Amsterdam Mohawks
Notes: Konuszewski pitched in just two games for the Mohawks but earned the win in his first appearance, fanning one in one inning of relief in an 8-1 win over Albany.
Tommy Tavarez
League: Northwoods
Team: Madison Mallards
Notes: Tavarez played in 10 games for the Mallards, with his stint highlighted by a home run in a 6-1 victory at Kokomo.
Johnny Long III
Leagues: Northwoods, Cape Cod
Teams: Madison Mallards (Northwoods), Chatham Anglers (Cape Cod)
Notes: Long III started his summer with the Northwoods League's Madison Mallards, playing in eight games before getting the call to the Cape Cod League's Chatham Anglers.
Jonathan Bautista
Leagues: Cape Cod, Valley
Teams: Hyannis Harbor Hawks (Cape Cod), New Market Rebels (Valley)
Notes: Bautista appeared in two games out of the bullpen for the Cape Cod League's Hyannis Harbor Hawks, registering a 2.25 ERA with three strikeouts in four innings of work. He then moved to the Valley League's New Market Rebels where he made four starts and totaled 10 strikeouts in four starts and 17.2 innings on the mound.
