PITTSBURGH – Head Coach Jodi Hermanek and the Pitt Softball team bolstered its pitching rotation today with the signing of transfer pitcher Adriana Romano.
Romano, who enters as a sophomore with three years of athletic eligibility left, spent her freshman season at Siena, where she was the ace of the staff for a team that won 30+ games in 2022.
A native of Barnegat, N.J., Romano went 11-6 with a 2.45 ERA last season, recording 139 strikeouts with an opposing batting average of .209 in 114.1 innings pitched. She had three shutouts and a save with a 1.25 WHIP.
"It's exciting to announce the addition of Adriana Romano to our Panther roster," Hermanek said. "Adriana comes off a freshman season putting out strong numbers that proves she knows how to win. I value her field presence and demeanor in the circle, and the attack she puts into her pitches to go after batters. That type of pitching character goes a long way in our Pitt bullpen and in the ACC."
Romano was a standout pitcher for Donovan Catholic High School, where she was named high school NFCA Second Team All-American and First Team All-Region as a senior. As a utility player, she received NJ.com First Team All-State and APP First Team All-Shore while garnering APP All-Division B South Player of the Year. She played club ball for the New Jersey Gators 18U squad, where she finished ninth in the 2019 Triple Crown 18U USA National Tournament. She was ranked number 53 nationally in the 2019 U.S. Club Softball National Rankings heading into college.
Romano is the second pitcher this month to commit to the Panthers via the transfer portal, joining Yale junior transfer Julia Grobman. Pitt now has five pitchers on staff with redshirt sophomore Dani Drogemuller, sophomore Kendall Brown and graduate student Abby Edwards returning.
