PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track & field program placed two student-athletes on the All-ACC Outdoor Track & Field Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on Friday morning.
Graduate student-athlete Felix Wolter earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time in his career (two indoor, two outdoor) while Breanna Phillips was selected to the academic squad for the third time in her career and first time following an outdoor campaign.
Wolter becomes the first male in program history to earn a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team and was just recently named as a Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American (first male in program history).
The Munich, Germany native continued his domination in the multi's this outdoor season as he was able to secure the Panthers' first ACC Championship in the decathlon. Wolter broke the Duke facility record with a score of 7,880 to secure gold and earn First Team All-ACC honors. He collected three victories and four second place finishes in the 10-event gauntlet.
Wolter, a computer science major with a 3.69 cumulative GPA, qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the second straight season but for the second straight season he was unable to compete due to injury.
Phillips, an applied developmental psychology major with a 3.67 cumulative GPA, had the best season of her career as she was able to secure Second Team All-ACC honors in the 400m hurdles at the ACC Outdoor Championships. Phillips posted a personal record time of 58.96 seconds, the seventh fastest in program history, to secure a fourth place finish and five points for the Panthers. She was then part of the Panthers' 4x400m relay squad that posted a fourth place finish with a season-best time of 3:40.71, earning five more points for the squad.
The Fort Wayne, IN native closes out her impressive Pitt career ranking inside the top-10 in multiple events including the pentathlon (5th), outdoor 400m hurdles (7th) and outdoor high jump (9th).
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
