Hail to Her: A Celebration of 50 Years of Title IX at Pitt

Pitt Launches Year-Long Title IX Campaign
PITTSBURGH – Pitt Athletics launched its year-long celebration of women's athletics at the University of Pittsburgh titled "Hail to Her" Thursday, June 23 on the 50th anniversary of the enactment of Title IX.
"June 23, 2022 is a momentous day as it gives us the opportunity to celebrate 50 years since the passage of Title IX and the opportunities the law created for women in sports," said Pitt Director of Athletics Heather Lyke. "Our year-long celebration is a display of appreciation to the giant shoulders we all stand on from the women who paved the way and more importantly allows us to focus on the next 50 years and the continued progress we will make for women."
The landmark legislation adopted in 1972 changed the face of women's athletics and created opportunities for women across the country. Among other things, the legislation, designed to address sex discrimination and provide equal access and opportunities to women, states that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
Pitt will open its Title IX Anniversary celebration Thursday with a celebratory reception for staff and student-athletes, release of the Hail to Her logo, Title IX microsite launch, release of its redesign of PittsburghPanthers.com, and the ACC Network's exclusive premiere of the one-hour documentary All Access with Pitt Women's Lacrosse: The Inaugural Season.

- Hail to Her Title IX anniversary logo – Designed specifically to honor the 50th anniversary of Title IX at Pitt, the Hail to Her logo will be displayed in a variety of ways throughout the year both at on site and electronically.
