PITTSBURGH – Pitt track and field graduate student Felix Wolter has been named to the 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-America® second team, as announced by the organization Wednesday afternoon.
Wolter becomes just the second Panther in track and field program history to earn a spot on a CoSIDA Academic All-America® team, joining Gillian Schriever who earned third team honors in 2018. He is also the first male student-athlete to earn the prestigious academic distinction in program history.
The 2022 Academic All-America® men's track and field/cross country teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes track and field/cross country honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.
Eighteen of the 45 members of the Academic All-America® Division I men's track and field/cross country teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 15 members on the first team have an average GPA of 3.90, with the entire men's team holding a collective average GPA of 3.83.
The Munich, Germany native has turned in one of the most impressive campaigns in Pitt program history this season. The graduate student notched the ACC Indoor heptathlon title and went on to earn Second Team All-American honors at the indoor national meet before claiming gold in the ACC outdoor decathlon at the ACC Championships at Duke with a facility record score of 7,880.
He is the first Panther in program history to earn ACC titles in either event while also being just the second ACC athlete to earn back-to-back indoor heptathlon titles.
The school record holder in the indoor heptathlon and outdoor decathlon, Wolter qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the decathlon with the 13th best score in the nation but was unable to compete in Eugene, OR due to an injury.
In the classroom, Wolter is a three-time Academic All-ACC honoree and currently holds a 3.69 GPA in his masters of computer science program.
