PITTSBURGH – Three University of Pittsburgh softball players have committed to play in collegiate summer softball leagues across the country.
Yvonne Whaley and Dani Drogemuller are both playing for Team Alliance of the Alliance Fastpitch Collegiate Summer Series, while Kat Rodriguez is playing for Siesta Key Phinz in the Florida Gulf Coast League.
Whaley, an All-ACC Third Team recipient this past season, will be playing three tournaments for Team Alliance in Kansas City, Mo. (June 14-18), Plano, Texas (July 7-10) and Lake Elsinore, Calif. (July 13-17). Whaley finished the season with a team-high .344 batting average, recording 45 hits, four doubles, two home runs, five RBI, 10 walks and eight stolen bases. She hit .358 in conference play as the leadoff hitter, totaling 24 hits while striking out only three times in 67 at-bats in league play.
Drogemuller is coming off an impressive season where she finished sixth in the ACC in strikeouts with 147. She compiled an 8-13 record with a 3.51 ERA in 28 appearances in one of softball's toughest conferences, registering 11 complete games and a save. She became the third pitcher since 2014 to record 100+ strikeouts in a season at Pitt. The right-hander will be competing in Plano, Texas (July 7-10) and Oklahoma City, Okla. (July 24-27).
Rodriguez will compete in the Florida Gulf Coast League through the months of June and July beginning June 16. The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native transferred to Pitt via Quinnipiac where she led the team in batting average (.352) and OPS (.880) in 2021. She tallied a team-high 43 hits, 24 runs, eight doubles, 59 total bases and a .484 slugging percentage en-route to All-MAAC Second Team honors. Rodriguez sat out the 2022 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
