PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's basketball head coach Lance White announced the signing of transfer forward Gabby Hutcherson to his Panthers' squad as part of the 2022 signing class. Hutcherson has three years of eligibility remaining after playing the past two season at Ohio State.
"I'm extremely excited to add Gabby to our team," expressed head coach Lance White. "She has a tireless work ethic and loves to compete. Gabby is a natural leader and will have an immediate impact on our team."
A former five-star recruit and No. 12 prospect in the 2020 signing class, Hutcherson saw limited minutes in 36 games for the Buckeyes while averaging 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds and shooting 35.2% from behind the arc. She helped Ohio State advance to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament this past season.
Appearing in 18 games during her sophomore campaign for the Buckeyes, Hutcherson averaged 10.2 minutes, 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds while totaling 12 blocked shots and shooting 39% from the floor. Hutcherson posted the best game of her career in a win over Mount St. Mary's as she played 22 minutes and finished with a career-high 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks while going 5-for-6 from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc.
As a freshman, the 6-2 forward appeared in 18 games while averaging 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds and shooting 41.7% from behind the arc (10-for-24) in limited playing action. Finished the season with 11 steals and nine blocks while posting a season-high 12 points, three rebounds and two steals while hitting two triples in a win over Illinois.
"Gabby's length and versatility on both ends of the floor will really compliment the players we already have in place," said White. "She's a winner and I am so excited she chose to be a Panther."
Hutcherson played high school basketball at Westerville South where she was the No. 12 prospect in the 2020 class. The athletic forward helped lead her team to a 62-17 overall record and a pair of district titles across her final three seasons. As a senior she averaged 14.4 points while being named OCC-Buckeye Player of the Year and First Team All-District.
Hutcherson joins Avery Strickland and local standout Aislin Malcolm as the first three members of the Panthers' highly anticipated 2022 signing class. They will join a talented roster that returns seven of their eight leading scorers from a season ago.
