PITTSBURGH – Junior thrower Shannah Mallett of the Pitt track and field team will be honored as the 2022 Peach of an Athlete (POA) Amateur Role Model by the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America on Tuesday, April 26 at the 38th Annual Peach of an Athlete Role Model Banquet in Atlanta, Georgia.
The annual banquet will be held at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta as the 2022 Peach of an Athlete Banquet is chaired by Craig Gunckel, Chief Executive Officer of Iconex.
The POA Amateur Role Model award is given out to two outstanding student-athletes from Georgia who have distinguished themselves by their character, scholastic achievement, academic excellence, and community service. The awarded student-athletes character and commitment to community most closely matches the aims and ideals of the Scouting program.
"I am extremely honored to be recognized as a Peach of an Athlete this year," stated Mallett. "I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunities that Pitt has made accessible to me in order for me to achieve this amazing accomplishment."
Mallett has exceled on and off the track for the Panthers over her impressive collegiate career as she graduated in just two years (2021) while also placing her name on the top-10 all-time list in the hammer throw.
Outside of track, Mallett has continued to be one of the driving forces behind community services initiatives for the Pitt student-athletes as well as being a vocal leader of the Pitt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
