GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt women's basketball junior Dayshanette Harris and sophomore Liatu King have been named to the 2021-22 All-ACC Women's Basketball Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
The accolade marks the third for Harris who becomes the first Panther in program history to earn the academic recognition three times during her career. Earning the recognition for the first time in her career, King is the 11th different Panther in program history to be recognized for her athletic and academic achievement.
Harris, an administration of justice major with a 3.44 cumulative GPA, finished off her junior campaign as the teams leading scorer (9.6 ppg) while also leading the team with 2.9 assists per game and grabbing 2.9 rebounds per contest. The explosive guard also shot a career-high 34% from behind the arc and 75.6% from the free throw line across 27 games and 19 starts for the Panthers at point guard.
The Youngstown, OH native scored in double figures 13 times while leading the Panthers in assists 15 times on the year. Harris has accumulated 825 career points and is the fastest Pitt player to the 800 career point plateau (69 games) since 2013 when current assistant coach and former Panther standout Brianna Kiesel achieved the feat in her 57th career contest. She is also the fastest Panther in program history to net at least 700 points, 250 rebounds and 175 assists, doing so in 60 games.
King, an undeclared major with a 3.55 cumulative GPA, had a breakout second season for the Panthers as she was able to post career-highs in nearly every statistical category. The Washington, DC native started 16 games at forward and finished the season averaging 7.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 44.3% from the floor across 19.8 minutes per contest.
The aggressive rebounder finished eighth in the ACC in rebounds per game (7.1 rpg) while ranking third in the conference in offensive rebounds per game (2.9 orpg). She closed out her impressive campaign scoring in double figures in 11 games while grabbing double digit rebounds a career-high six times. King burst onto the scene during the Paradise Jam for the Panthers as she posted a pair of double-doubles including two straight games with a career-best 19 rebounds. She opened the tournament with 10 points and 19 rebounds against Texas A&M before posting the best game of her career in the win over Northwestern as she finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
