
Pitt Falls to Boston College in ACC Tournament First Round

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Pitt men's basketball team fell to Boston College, 66-46, at the Barclays Center in the first round of the ACC Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore John Hugley scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Graduate student Mouhamadou Gueye finished with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and a block while senior Jamarius Burton totaled 10 points, three rebounds and three steals.
Both teams traded baskets early, with Hugley scoring Pitt's first two buckets before the Panthers went on a two-minute scoring drought and trailed 9-4 into the first media timeout. The Panthers responded out of the timeout with six-straight points to take their first lead of the game, 10-9, and through the first eight minutes of play, Hugley shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the field as Pitt trailed 16-14 with 11:38 in the first.
Burton hit the 1,000-point mark with a three-pointer with just under eight to play, tying the game at 18-18. Of Burton's 1,003 career points, 373 have come in a Panther unform. The Panthers kept it close and trailed by two (24-22) into the final media timeout of the half, but the Eagles scored nine-straight points and ended the half on a 12-0 run to lead 33-22 at the break.
Pitt shot 34.6% (9-of-26) from the floor and 28.6% (2-of-7) from three in the first. Hugley had eight points, three rebounds and two assists while Burton had eight points and two steals. Both ran into early foul trouble as Burton and Hugley had three and two, respectively.
Sophomore guard Femi Odukale picked up two quick fouls and Burton was assessed his fourth personal as the Panthers trailed 41-25 with 15:35 to play. The Panthers could not cut into the lead and trailed by double-digits the rest of the way, falling 66-46.
The Panthers finished the contest 40% (18-of-45) and made seven of 12 attempted free throws.
