Felix Wolter Qualifies For NCAA Indoor Championships For Second Straight Season

PITTSBURGH – For the second straight season, Felix Wolter has qualified for the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships being held in Birmingham, AL on March 11-12.
Wolter is the first heptathlete in Pitt program history to qualify for back-to-back NCAA Indoor Championships while the Panthers have had at least one student-athlete qualify for the indoor championships in three straight seasons.
The Munich, Germany native competed in his first heptathlon of the year at the ACC Indoor Championships last weekend and completely dominated the field to secure his second straight ACC title in the event. Wolter was able to set the school and facility record in the event with a score of 5,979 as he became the first Panther in program history to earn two indoor crowns. He also became just the third heptathlete in ACC history to earn two indoor titles and just the second to do so in back-to-back seasons.
The talented athlete claimed three victories in the seven events while also setting three personal record marks, two top-10 program marks and earning First Team All-ACC honors for the second straight season. Wolter posted victories in the long jump, high jump and 60m hurdles while securing the title with a second place finish in the 1000m run with a new personal record time of 2:39.28.
Wolter will be looking to improve on his fourth place finish a season ago at the NCAA Indoor Championships as he became the first Panther heptathlete to earn First Team All-America status with a record breaking performance in Fayatetteville, Arkansas. The Germany native showed out in his first indoor championship meet as he posted a then school record score of 5,907 while posting five PR's in the seven-event competition.
Wolter qualified for the Championship meet with the 5th best score in the heptathlon this season and will open up his competition on Friday, Mar. 11 at 10:00 am with the 60m dash.
The championships, hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the City of Birmingham, will be held March 11 and 12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
ESPN3 will stream the championships live starting at 11 a.m. Eastern time Friday, March 11 and starting at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time Saturday, March 12. A re-air of the championship will take place starting at 9:30 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, March 13 on ESPNU.
