PITTSBURGH – The inaugural season of Pitt Lacrosse gets underway Friday, Feb. 11 at Highmark Stadium when the Panthers host crosstown foe Duquesne. The opening draw is set for 5 p.m. with the game being broadcast over the internet via ACC Network Extra.
"We couldn't be more excited for our inaugural game this Friday," said head coach Emily Boissonneault. "Our student-athletes should be extremely proud of themselves, they have worked incredibly hard for this opportunity. We hope that this Friday they take the time to enjoy the moment, it's going to be the start of an incredible season."
Admission is free at Highmark Stadium for all Pitt Lacrosse games throughout the 2022 season. The full schedule for the Panthers' inaugural season is available HERE.
"It is important to thank Heather Lyke, Dustin Gray, and everyone else within the athletic department that have helped make this season happen, without them none of this would be possible," added Boissonneault.
Friday's game marks the head coaching debut for Emily Boissonneault. She was hired to lead the Panther program Jan. 29, 2019 as Pitt became the ninth ACC school to sponsor women's lacrosse.
Pitt's roster is made up of 15 freshmen, 14 transfers and nine returnees (six sophomores and three seniors). Among the Panthers 14 transfers, six (Sammie Giroux, Paige Petty, Reilly Reed, Chloe Jones, Molly Carter, Allyson Trice) have played in the ACC.
Petty, an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America and Preseason All-ACC selection, has recorded a point in every game of her college career. She earned All-America honors in all four season at Virginia Tech before joining the Pitt program for her final season of eligibility. She is the Hokies' all-time leader in goals (204) and is tied for first in points scored (227).
