PITTSBURGH—Pitt freshman Hallie Copperwheat has been named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Co-Gymnast of the Week, as announced Wednesday.
Copperwheat shares the honor with graduate student Deja Chambliss from George Washington and is the second freshman in program history to earn this accolade (Alicia Talucci, 2009).
In Sunday's quad meet against N.C. State, West Virginia, and Alaska, the Leighton Buzzard, England native earned the third highest all-around score in program history – 39.500. She secured four individual titles during the meet – T-1st Vault (9.825), T-1st Bars (9.875), Beam (9.925), All-Around (39.500), and earned career highs on every event.
This marks Copperwheat's second weekly conference award, as she was awarded Co-Rookie of the Week following the team's season opener on Jan. 16.
Up next, Pitt will travel to Morgantown, W. Va. for the team's second meeting with the Mountaineers of the season. The two teams will be joined by Texas Woman's University for a tri-meet at the WVU Coliseum Friday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
