
Track & Field Back In Action This Weekend At Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field team hits the road this weekend for their first of three trips to Blacksburg, VA as they will compete in the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet from Friday-Saturday. The two-day meet will feature 11 teams from around the country and will take place inside the Rector Field House.

- The 11 teams competing this weekend are Virginia Tech, Virginia, Pitt, Duke, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Tennessee, UNC Charlotte, East Carolina, Kentucky, and VCU.
- The ranked teams on the women's side are Kentucky (4), Tennessee (16), Virginia Tech (17), Duke (21).
- The ranked teams on the men's side are Kentucky (5), Tennessee (11) and Clemson (22)
- The Panthers wrapped up a solid showing at the highly competitive Razorback Invitational last weekend with eight top-10 all-time Pitt marks. Three of the top-10 marks were second best in program history.
- Senior Noah Walker had the biggest performance of the weekend for the Panthers in the weight throw as he was able to collect second place with a big PR throw. Walker secured silver with a heave that traveled 71'10.25" (21.90m) which marked the second best throw in the event in Pitt program history. The distance also currently sits as the eighth best throw in the NCAA this season.
- Cobe Wiggins had himself a strong showing in the heptathlon, especially on day two of the event. Wiggins was able to post a new PR score of 5,198 points to claim eighth place overall. His score marked the second best in program history in the event, behind teammate Felix Wolter's school record (5,907). The senior finished off the seven-event gauntlet with new PR's in the high jump, pole vault and 1000m run. He posted the sixth best pole vault height in program history, 12'11.50" (3.95m), to claim eighth place in the event.
- On the women's side, senior Ally Brunton had another great showing in the mile run as she was able to secure bronze with a new personal record time. Brunton crossed the finish line in 4:43.29 which marked the second fastest in program history in the event. Foluke Olujide-Ajibade was able to secure a sixth place finish in the weight throw with a new PR heave. Her toss traveled 61'3.00" (18.67m) which marks the fifth best throw in program history.
- In the 3000m run, Jack Miller posted a fifth place finish with a season-best time of 8:09.01 while Luke Henseler crossed the finish line in ninth place with a time of 8:15.69, which was the sixth best time in program history in the event.
- Making his first appearance in the long jump for the Panthers, Clement Campbell posted a season-best mark of 23'8.25" (7.22m) which is tied for the sixth best leap in program history.
- Sophomore Ilse Steigenga was able to post a new PR score of 3,524 points in the pentathlon in her first appearance in the event this season. Her score also marked the ninth best in program history in the event. She posted a fifth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 18'8.00" (5.69m) and a seventh place finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:32.03.
- Pitt returns to the track next week as they head to the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson. The two-day meet will run from Friday, Feb. 11 to Saturday, Feb. 12.
