DURHAM, N.C.—The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team completed its 2021-22 regular season with a 29-12 victory at Duke on Friday night at historic Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Panthers (8-6, 2-3 ACC) scored six bonus-point victories in the dual to pull away from the hosts.
"That was a nice way to finish the regular season with a solid win on the road," Pitt coach Keith Gavin said after the victory. "Our focus will immediately shift to the upcoming ACC Championships and making sure we're ready to go for the postseason."
Pitt quickly jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to decisive wins at 125, 133 and 141 pounds, respectively. Gage Curry and Cole Matthews won easily by major decision, while Micky Phillippi was able to pin his opponent late in the second period with a cradle.
The Blue Devils (7-10, 0-5 ACC) responded with wins from the Finesilver brothers on their senior night, but the Panthers added victories by Elijah Cleary at 157, Jake Wentzel at 165, Gregg Harvey at 184 and Nino Bonaccorsi at 197 to finish with their most lopsided dual win away from home this season.
Pitt improved to 9-0 all-time in matches with the Blue Devils and 3-0 in Durham.
