Gray becomes first two-time Academic All-American in program history
PITTSBURGH – Serena Gray of the University of Pittsburgh volleyball team has been awarded 2nd Team Academic All-America status, the College Sports Communicators announced on Wednesday. Gray earned the honor with a perfect 4.00 GPA in her Applied Developmental Psychology graduate program while also delivering a 1st Team All-American season on the court.
Gray becomes the first Panther in program history to earn Academic All-America status multiple times after also doing so last season (2021).
She is one of four student-athletes this season to be named both Academic and 1st Team AVCA All-American this season, joining Logan Eggleston (Texas), McKenna Melville (UCF) and Madga Jehlarova (Washington State).
Gray 2022 Highlights
Gray led the Panthers to back-to-back National Semifinals in her two seasons at Pitt. She and Courtney Buzzerio became the first Panther duo in program history to be named 1st Team All-American this season. Gray posted a .396 hitting percentage, the 18th highest in Division I, becoming one of just four players in the nation to post back-to-back Top 20 hitting percentages. She finishes her Pitt career with a .407 hitting percentage as a Panther, the highest in program history. Named ACC Player of the Week after making 24 kills on .600 hitting while also averaging 1.00 block/set in a dominant display to begin the conference season against North Carolina and NC State. She is the only player in the ACC to achieve a hitting percentage over .400 in conference play while also making over 130 kills. She joins Kayla Lund as the only Panthers to ever earn Academic All-American, AVCA All-American and All-Conference in the same season.
