PITTSBURGH—The No. 17 Pitt wrestling team returns to dual action this Saturday with a matchup at Illinois on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET from the State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill.
The Panthers (2-1), led by head coach Keith Gavin in his sixth season at the helm of his alma mater, defeated No. 13 Lehigh last time out and will look to build on that momentum away from home.
The Fighting Illini (1-1) haven't faced Pitt since 2009 and trail in the all-time series 4-1, with the Panthers winning their only previous visit to Champaign. Illinois, led by second-year head coach Mike Poeta, beat Buffalo to open its dual campaign but is coming off a loss to another ACC foe, No. 8 NC State.
Saturday's ACC-Big Ten dual presents Pitt with four ranked matchups: at 133 pounds, No. 11 Micky Phillippi gets a chance at revenge against former NCAA foe No. 6 Lucas Byrd; at 165 pounds, No. 14 Holden Heller looks to stay undefeated this season against No. 19 Danny Braunagel; at 174, No. 33 Luca Augustine has a huge opportunity to build his resume versus No. 10 Edmond Ruth; and at 197, No. 8 Nino Bonaccorsi can continue his strong start to the season versus No. 15 Zach Braunagel.
Those four bouts and several others will prove crucial in determining the outcome of the dual.
Here is Pitt's probable lineup for the matchup against Illinois:
125: Colton Camacho (6-2)
133: No. 11 Micky Phillippi (2-1)
