Softball Announces 2023 Schedule

PITTSBURGH – Pitt softball head coach Jodi Hermanek released the 2023 schedule, early Monday afternoon. The 52-game regular season schedule includes 13 games to be played at Vartabedian Field.
The season opens at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla., as Pitt begins their 2023 campaign against Indiana (Feb. 10 – 1:30 p.m.). The Panthers will remain on the road for the first six weeks of the season before returning to Pittsburgh to face Virginia in their home opener from March 24-26.

All home games, including non-conference games, will be ticketed. Single game tickets will be sold separately and will be available for purchase at a later date.
The Panthers first 10 games of the season will be played in the state of Florida. Pitt kicks off the season Feb. 10-12 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic and will face Indiana, Prairie View, Auburn, Kentucky and Fordham. Pitt will then travel to Miami for the FIU Panther Invitational Feb. 17-19. Teams in the tournament include Missouri, FIU and Butler.
Pitt will compete at the University of Houston Tournament, Feb. 24-26, and will face Houston Baptist, Sam Houston, Houston and Illinois. The Panthers will then head to Huntingdon, W. Va., from March 3-5 for the Thundering Herd Round Robin, hosted by Marshall. Teams in the tournament include Morehead State, Marshall and Kent State.
Pitt concludes tournament play at the Memphis Tournament from March 10-12. The Panthers will play Indiana State, North Alabama and Memphis.
After five straight tournaments, the Panthers open ACC play on the road at Louisville. The three-game series will be played from March 17-19 at Ulmer Stadium. Pitt will also travel to Notre Dame (March 31-April 2), North Carolina (April 7-9) and Clemson (April 21-23) for conference play.
The Panthers will host four ACC matchups at Vartabedian Field, welcoming Virginia (March 24-26), Georgia Tech (April 14-16), Duke (April 28-30) and NC State (May 5-7) to Pittsburgh.
Pitt will face Penn State, Robert Morris and Saint Francis in non-conference play. The Panthers will travel to State College, March 21, for a single game against the Nittany Lions. Pitt will make a quick trip to Moon Township to face the Colonials, April 4, before traveling to Loretto for a matchup against the Red Flash on April 11. Pitt will host RMU at Vartabedian Field for another single-game matchup on May 2.
The Panthers return 15 players from last year's roster, including All-ACC third team graduate student Yvonne Whaley and redshirt sophomore Dani Drogemuller.
Pitt bolstered its pitching rotation over the summer with the additions of Julia Grobman and Adriana Romano. Grobman joins the Panthers pitching staff from Yale, making four starts inside the circle for the Bulldogs, totaling 25 strikeouts and a 3.82 ERA in 29.1 innings of work. Romano spent her freshman season at Siena, where she was the ace of the staff, going 11-6 with a 2.45 ERA and recording 139 strikeouts in 2022.
