
Men's Soccer Places Five On All-ACC Squads

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team saw a total of five student-athletes honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference Wednesday morning. The Panthers have now placed 24 on All-ACC squads over the last three seasons.
Pitt placed two on the All-ACC First Team, two on the All-ACC Second Team and one on the All-ACC Freshman Team. This marks the second time in program history the Panthers have placed multiple players on the First Team.
Earning the First Team nod for the second time in his career was Valentin Noel while midfielder Filip Mirkovic earned First Team honors for the first time. Bertin Jacquesson and captain Jackson Walti each earned Second Team honors for the third straight season for the Panthers. Freshman defender Jackson Gilman earn a spot on the All-Freshman Team after posting a strong first season for Pitt.
Noel, from Niort, France, earns First Team honors for the second time as he leads the Panthers in goals (7) while ranking second on the squad in points (17). The electric forward has started 16 matches while notching 41 shots and a team-high two game-winning goals. On the year, Noel has a team-high seven multi-point games. For his career, Noel is tied for second in program history in goals (31), third in points (75) and tied for ninth in assists (13).
Mirkovic earned the First Team nod for the first time as he is enjoying the best season of his Pitt career. The junior currently leads the Panthers in scoring (18 points) while leading the ACC and ranking fourth in the nation in assists (12). His 12 assists are a new program record for assists in a single season in Pitt history while he also ranks second in the nation in assists per game (.80). The Brooklyn, NY native has a career-high six multi-point games so far this season including a career-high four points (goal and two assists) in the 3-3 draw against Akron.
Earning a spot on the Second team for the third straight season, Jacquesson has made 14 starts for the Panthers while netting five goals, three assists and 13 points along with a team-high 45 shots. The electric forward has five multi-point games including back-to-back games with three points to open the season against a pair of ranked opponents. For his career, the junior ranks third in program history in assists (21) while also ranking third among active players in assists per game over his career (.40).
Walti earns Second Team recognition for the third straight season for the Panthers after leading the Pitt midfield once again this season. The four-year team captain has been a stalwart for the Panthers in the center of the pitch while also chipping in with a career-high two goals and four points on the year. Starting all 17 matches, Walti has helped Pitt secure six clean sheets defensively while also allowing opponents to score just 1.10 goals per game on the year.
Appearing in a program record 96 games while earning 93 starts, Walti has logged a program-high 8,599 career minutes for the Panthers which currently leads all players in the NCAA for minutes played in a career. He will go down as one of the best to ever wear the Pitt jersey at the completion of his five-year career in the blue and gold.
Gilman, a native of Schwenksville, PA, has been one of the best freshman defenders in the country this season for the Panthers. Starting all 17 matches on the backline for Pitt, Gilman has contributed with two assists and 15 shots on the year. Defensively, he has helped the Panthers secure six clean sheets on the year while holding opponents to just 1.10 goal against per contest. Through 17 games, Pitt has allowed just five opponents to score multiple goals.
The Panthers (8-4-5, 3-2-3 ACC) will find out their postseason fate on Monday, Nov. 14 at 1:00 pm as the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Committee will announce the full 48-team field with the selection show on NCAA.com.
