Five Panthers Score in Double Figures in 83-61 Win Over FDU

PITTSBURGH – Pitt used an efficient offensive attack in the second half to post a 83-61 win over FDU Tuesday evening at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers made all 17 two-point field goal attempts after intermission and shot a blistering 76.9 percent (20-of-26) from the field over the final 20 minutes to post their second non-conference home win in the past three days.
Jamarius Burton paced the Panthers with 18 points to go along with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals, while John Hugley IV added 17 points, five rebounds and two blocks. The tandem combined to go 15-of-23 from the field. Blake Hinson, Nelly Cummings, and Jorge Diaz Graham each scored 11 points as Pitt had five double-figure scorers in a game for the first time since a road win at North Carolina last season.
Pitt jumped out to 35-28 lead at the half as the defense stepped up to hold FDU to 2-of-17 shooting from the field over the final 9:28 of play. Hugley IV delivered nine points, four rebounds and a block, while Burton added eight points and five rebounds in the opening half.
The Panthers used a 17-3 run over a six-minute span to break open the game and grab a 56-37 lead with 11:58 remaining. Greg Elliott started the run with a three-point field goal and Jorge Diaz Graham added six points during the run.
Pitt carried a solid double-digit lead throughout the rest of the game with FDU getting no closer than 12 points over the final 15 minutes of play. The Panthers extended the advantage to 23 points with just under two minutes remaining and walk-on Aidan Fisch capped off the scoring with a jumper in the lane with 36 seconds remaining for his first career basket.
Grant Singleton led the Knights with 11 points, while Ansley Almonor (10) and Heru Bligen (10) also scored in double figures. Pitt held the visiting FDU team 25.5 points below its season average and limited the Knights to just 36.5 percent (23-of-63) shooting from the field.
SECOND HALF SHOOTING SUCCESS
Pitt made all 17 two-point field goal attempts of the second half and shot 76.9 percent (20-of-26) after intermission … Pitt's second half field goal was the highest in a game under Jeff Capel and the seventh best in program history … the Panthers shot a season-best 53.4 percent (31-of-58) from the field for the game.

Freshman Jorge Diaz Graham has come on strong for the Panthers over the past three games averaging 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, while going 9-of-18 from the field and 9-of-13 from the free throw line.
OWNING THE PAINT
Pitt controlled the interior with a commanding 42-29 rebounding advantage and a 38-22 edge in points in the paint. Pitt's guard played a significant role in the rebounding edge as Nike Sibande (9), Burton (7), and Elliott (5) combined for 21 rebounds.
EXCELLENT IN THE 80s
The Panthers scored a season-high 83 points to improve to 14-1 under Jeff Capel when reaching the 80-point mark … Pitt has won its past nine games when scoring 80 or more points.
