THE OPENING TIP
• Pitt faces VCU Thursday, Nov. 17 in the Vivid Seats Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper at the Barclays Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. with Kevin Brown and Jon Crispin calling the game for ESPN2.
• All five previous meetings between Pitt and VCU were decided by five points or fewer. Each of the past two meetings have gone into overtime, including an 84-79 Pitt win in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
• Thursday's game marks the second of six games for the Panthers in a 13-day span. Three of the six games will be played away from the Petersen Events Center.
• Jeff Capel spent four seasons as the head coach at VCU leading the Rams to a 79-41 record from 2002-2006.
• Pitt is 9-4 in the Legends Classic winning titles in 2008 and 2013. The Panthers have dropped their past threes Legends Classic contests.
