PITTSBURGH – Leah Pais from the women's soccer along with Jack Miller and Luke Henseler from men's cross country have been named PNC Achievers of the Week after some remarkable postseason efforts.
Senior forward Leah Pais lifted the No. 19-ranked Pitt women's soccer team (13-4-3) to a 1-0 win over Buffalo Saturday in the 2022 NCAA Championship First Round at Ambrose Urbanic Field with a header goal in the 85th minute. The victory was a historic one for the Panthers as Pitt earned a win in its first-ever NCAA Tournament game. Pais increased her team lead in goals to eight. The Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, native has tallied two game winners this season. The triumph over the Bulls sets the No. 4-seeded Panthers up with a Second Round matchup against No. 5-seeded Georgetown on Friday at 2 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla.
Juniors Jack Miller and Luke Henseler made Pitt history on Friday morning, qualifying for the NCAA Championships with a couple of excellent showings at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals race in State College. Miller and Henseler become the first Pitt duo in men's cross-country history to reach the NCAA Championships and the first Pitt representatives at the race since 1994.
Miller achieved the feat with a 10k time of 30:11.20, finishing 7th in the region, the highest-ever finish for a Panther. Henseler was close behind, finishing in 30:18.70 to place 13th. The duo led Pitt to a 5th place result at the event, tied for the best finish in program history. Both runners will head to Stillwater, Okla. for the NCAA Championships on Saturday (Nov. 19). The race is scheduled to start at 11:10 a.m. ET and can be watched on ESPNU
