No. 18 Pitt Shuts Out Cleveland State, 36-0

CLEVELAND—Pitt put the college wrestling world on notice Friday night with an impressive opening dual victory at Cleveland State, winning by 36-0 shutout to open the 2022-23 regular season.
Head coach Keith Gavin started his sixth season at the helm of his alma mater by watching his recruiting and development come to fruition. Eight Panthers scored at least nine points in their respective matches, with six Pitt wrestlers securing bonus-point major decision wins.
Redshirt freshman Luca Augustine led the way with an 18-point outburst at 174 pounds in his debut in Pitt's starting lineup. Newcomers Dazjon Casto, Holden Heller and Reece Heller also impressed in their first dual matches as Panthers, with Reece earning a ranked win over No. 33 DeAndre Nassar.
Returning All-Americans Micky Phillippi, Cole Matthews and Nino Bonaccorsi all looked comfortable in winning their first matches of the new season, while Colton Camacho, Tyler Badgett and Jake Slinger rounded out a start-to-finish Pitt (1-0, 0-0 ACC) domination over the Vikings (0-1, 0-0 MAC).
In the first dual meeting between the two nearby programs in a decade, Pitt improved to 22-14-1 in the all-time series with Cleveland State.

The Panthers will host their home opener at Fitzgerald Field House against Maryland on Friday, Nov. 18 with a 7 p.m. start before welcoming in-state rival Lehigh to Pittsburgh on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
Ranked No. 18 in the preseason NWCA Coaches Poll, Gavin's Pitt squad returns numerous All-America contenders and features several transfers and freshman expected to contribute for the Panthers.
