10/5/2022 2:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
PITTSBURGH – The first event of the 2022-23 basketball season is set to officially commence Tuesday, October 11 as the Atlantic Coast Conference hosts the Women's Basketball Tipoff event at The Westin in Charlotte, NC. For the second straight season, the men's and women's events will be held on consecutive days with the women on Oct. 11 and the men on Oct. 12.
Head Coach Lance White will be joined in Charlotte by senior guard Dayshanette Harris and graduate student guard Channise Lewis. This marks the fourth straight WBB Tipoff for Harris and the first for Lewis.
Harris posted a strong junior campaign that saw her appear in 27 games while starting 19 at point guard for the Panthers. The two-year team captain finished off her third season averaging 9.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and a team-high 2.9 assists while shooting a career-high 34% from behind the arc. The Youngstown, OH native is the fastest Pitt player in program history to record 700 points, 250 rebounds and 175 assists, doing so in just 60 games. Harris is also the first player in program history to be named to the ACC All-Academic Team three times.
Lewis transferred to Pitt after spending the last five years at perennial power Maryland. Lewis didn't appear in a game last season due to a knee injury but has appeared in 78 career games while earning 45 starts at point guard for the Terrapins. Across her career, Lewis is averaging 25.1 minutes, 4.8 points, 4.8 assists and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 36.1% from behind the arc. As a freshman, Lewis ranked second in the NCAA among first-year players averaging 4.7 assists per game.
ACC Network will be live from the ACC Tipoff in Charlotte, for two days of expansive coverage which includes interviews with White, Harris and Lewis on Tuesday afternoon. The 24/7 national network dedicated to ACC sports will provide the event's most robust television coverage to date.
