PITTSBURGH – For the second week in a row and the third time this season, graduate senior Courtney Buzzerio has been named ACC Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Buzzerio led the No. 8 Panthers past Notre Dame and No. 2 Louisville this past weekend, providing a pair of dominant performances inside Fitzgerald Field House.
She delivered 4.13 kills/set and .307 hitting over the weekend. Her 22 kills against Louisville are the most she's recorded as a Panther, doing so on .302 hitting, while also setting a season best with eight digs on defense. She made the final three kills of the fifth set to lead the Panthers to the highest ranked win in program history, securing the Panthers' fourth straight Top 10 victory - the longest streak in program history.
The Panthers now hold the longest active winning streak in the ACC, with 10 straight conference wins. Buzzerio has made over 4 kills/set with at least 1 dig/set and 1 block/set in each of Pitt's Top 10 ACC victories over Georgia Tech and Louisville. She leads the nation in hitting percentage among those with more than 600 attempts and is the only hitter in the nation to have made at least 10 kills and hit at least .300 for nine matches in a row.
The Panthers have won 13 matches in a row, the fourth longest active winning streak in the country, and the longest among Power 5 teams. This is the sixth season in a row that Pitt has had a winning streak of at least 13 matches.
Buzzerio becomes the first student-athlete in the conference to earn ACC Player of the Week three times this season. A Panther has won ACC Player of the Week in five of last six weeks (Buzzerio (9/19, 10/17 & 10/24), Serena Gray (9/26) and Valeria Vazquez Gomez (10/10). Pitt is the only program in the ACC to have earned the award more than twice this year.
Buzzerio joins Kayla Lund as the only Panther to have won ACC Player of the Week three times in the same season after Lund did so back in 2018. Buzzerio now leads the conference with three POW selections, passing Georgia Tech's Julia Bergmann who won the first two awards of the year.
UP NEXT
