PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh wrestling program put season tickets on sale this week for the team's much-anticipated 2022-23 campaign.
Fans can secure their seats for all seven of Pitt's home matches at Fitzgerald Field House for $50. BUY HERE.
After earning a new five-year contract from Director of Athletics Heather Lyke this offseason, Pitt wrestling head coach Keith Gavin begins his sixth season in charge of his alma mater with an exciting roster featuring several All-America contenders, a highly touted freshman class and InterMat's preseason No. 1 individual at 141 pounds – Cole Matthews.
Pitt is ranked as a team in every preseason poll, with FloWrestling having the Panthers at No. 16 while InterMat put Gavin's program at No. 17 in the first ranking of the new season.
Along with national title contender and 2022 All-American Matthews, Pitt's lineup also features previous All-Americans and perennial top-10 individuals in Micky Phillippi at 133 and Nino Bonaccorsi at 197 – both of whom will wrestle one final season for the Panthers to conclude their incredible careers.
Colton Camacho (125) and Jake Slinger (285) return with plenty of starting experience, while redshirt freshmen Brock McMillen (149) and Luca Augustine (174) could provide an influx of talented youth after impressing during their redshirt seasons.
Transfers Dazjon Casto (157), Holden Heller (165) and Reece Heller (184) – all conference title-winning wrestlers at their previous schools – add quality and depth to Pitt's projected starting lineup as that trio also aims to stand on ACC and NCAA podiums this season.
Pitt's roster features a tremendous Class of 2022 freshman group as well, highlighted by local PA products Mac Stout, Dayton Pitzer, Jared Keslar, Briar Priest and Jack Pletcher with sensational prep pedigrees.
New to NCAA wrestling this season is a rule that will allow student-athletes to compete in up to five dates of competition without burning their redshirt status for the season, which means Pitt's heralded true freshmen may have more opportunities to compete in significant duals during the 2022-23 season.
Following Pitt's Blue-Gold Dual on Friday, Oct. 28, the Panthers will host a weekend doubleheader in November with the home opener against Maryland on Friday, Nov. 18 followed by an in-state rivalry dual with Lehigh on Saturday, Nov. 19. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. starts.
The Backyard Brawl against West Virginia returns after a hiatus on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. in what is sure to be a raucous atmosphere at Fitzgerald Field House for the Panthers and Mountaineers.
Buffalo comes to Pittsburgh the following Friday for a Jan. 13 dual at 7 p.m., while Iowa State concludes Pitt's nonconference slate with a visit on Saturday, Feb. 4 for a rare ACC-Big 12 dual at 7 p.m.
Pitt will also host ACC duals at the Fitzgerald Field House against North Carolina (Friday, Feb. 3, 7 p.m.) and Duke (Saturday, Feb. 18, 12 p.m.) towards the end of the regular season.
