Fisher Signs 6-Foot-4 Incoming Freshman Middle Blocker
PITTSBURGH – Incoming freshman middle blocker Rachel Jepsen will join the Pitt volleyball program, head coach Dan Fisher announced Wednesday.
"Rachel possesses the rare combination of incredible talent and humility," Fisher said. "We have extremely high expectations and know that she can be an elite college volleyball middle blocker. The values of our culture are aligned with hers and we can't wait to start training her."
Standing at 6-foot-4, Jepsen was a four-year varsity starter for Olympus High School. The Holladay, Utah, native has been a member of the Club V volleyball program since 2020 and is a three-time invitee to train with the USA Volleyball National Training Development Program. She will join the Panthers upon her graduation this spring.
"I chose Pitt because of the phenomenal coaching here," Jepsen said. "I believe it is critical to have a coach who develops his players and helps them grow in their game. The success of the volleyball program at Pitt is evidence that Dan Fisher is one of the very best player developers in Division I volleyball."
Outside of volleyball, Jepsen is a four-time academic high honor roll selection and intends to major in business at Pitt. She actively serves her community through the "Friend to Friend" organization that organizes monthly community service opportunities for students.
Rachel is the daughter of Katie and Bret Jepsen and has four younger siblings: Soren, Bronwyn, Gretel and Noel. Rachel's father, Bret, played collegiate basketball at BYU.
"During my official visit, I loved meeting the players and watching them compete in practice," Jepsen said. "I was blown away by the level of intensity, focus, and competition in the gym while at the same time feeling so much positivity, friendship and encouragement among teammates. I was so impressed with the family-like support that exists within this team of incredibly focused, hardworking, competitive players. To find a program that competes at the highest level in the country while also fostering a culture of kindness, balance, and inclusion is a dream come true for me. The assistant coaches, Kellen [Petrone] and Lindsey [Behonick] are just as impressive as coaches and human beings. I'm beyond grateful to be joining this program!"
