Pitt Volleyball Picks Up Talented Iowa Transfer
PITTSBURGH – Pitt volleyball head coach Dan Fisher has announced the addition of 6-foot-5 Iowa transfer right side hitter Courtney Buzzerio to the Panther's 2022 roster.
"Pitt fans have a lot to be excited about with the addition of Courtney Buzzerio," Fisher said. "She is a proven point scorer and fills an immediate need. We expect her to have a big impact bringing physicality, experience and leadership. Courtney is a great cultural fit as well and we can't wait until she gets on campus. Hail!"
The Chino Hills, Calif., native is set to graduate from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in health and human physiology this spring prior to her transfer. Upon arrival at Pitt she will pursue a path in nursing.
Buzzerio is a two-time All-Big Ten honoree, earning First Team honors in 2020 and Second Team honors in 2021. She has earned All-North Region honors twice from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) (2020, 2021).
"I am so excited to be able to be a part of the Pitt volleyball family," Buzzerio said. "I cannot wait to get to Pittsburgh this summer, train with the best and compete at the highest level this fall."
This past season, Buzzerio ranked second in the Big Ten while leading the Hawkeyes with 4.07 kills per set. She posted five career highs during Iowa's 2021 campaign, including kills (28 versus Duke, Aug. 28), attacks (63 vs. Illinois, Sept. 22), attack percentage (.552 vs. Indiana, Nov. 5), aces (5 vs. Northwestern, Oct. 23), and digs (16 vs. Colorado, Sept. 3). She had two double-doubles on the season while appearing in all 107 sets for the Hawkeyes.
As a junior during the 2020 season (played during the spring months of 2021), Buzzerio became the first Hawkeye in program history to record multiple triple-doubles in a career. She earned her third on Feb. 6, 2021, against Indiana with 13 kills, 21 assists and 11 digs.
A highly touted recruit out of Orange Lutheran High School, Buzzerio played alongside her older sister, Meghan, for two years while at Iowa (2018, 2019). Their mother, Dana, played volleyball at UC Irvine, and their father, Tony, played water polo at Cal State University-Los Angeles.
