PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving teams will kick off 2022 competition with a non-conference match-up against Villanova this Thursday, Jan. 20 at Trees Pool. The meet will be available for streaming on ACCNX. Admission is free for all fans.
Men's and women's diving will lead off the meet beginning at 2 p.m., followed by swimming at 4:00 p.m.
After almost a full two months after the last formal competition for the Panthers at the Ohio State Invitational, the team is looking to build on the three school records, 12 NCAA swimming cuts, and numerous diving zone cuts the teach as achieved so far this season.
For the men, sophomore Marcin Goraj, junior Jerry Chen, and senior Cooper Van der Laan continue to set the pace, while freshmen Jordan Smolsky and Trent Russano have proven to be assets for the team. Freshman diver Cameron Cash looks to build on his dominant collegiate start along with junior Dylan Reed.
On the women's side, juniors Daisy Anderson and Tatum Detwiler, along with graduate swimmer, Sarah-Helen Shepherd continue to be strong leaders in both individual and relay events. Freshmen Jill Berger and Janelle Schulz have also contributed impressive performances throughout their debut seasons. Senior diver Amy Read, who has recorded at least one NCAA Zone cut at every meet she has competed in this season, looks to guide the divers in strengthening their postseason aspirations.
