Lund, Miller Named Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week

Volleyball, Cross Country Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Kayla Lund of volleyball and Jack Miller of men's cross country were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Lund led the seventh-ranked volleyball team to thrilling back-to-back five-set wins against No. 9 Baylor and Tennessee over the weekend, helping the Panthers reach a 5-0 overall record. The outside hitter led Pitt with 40 kills over the 10 sets played, amounting to 4.00 kills per set on .337 hitting. Against the Bears (Sept. 4) she had a season-high 21 kills including the match winner, while hitting a season-best .432. The following match, she recorded her third double-double of Pitt's five matches played with 19 kills and 11 digs on the road at Tennessee (Sept. 5). Overall, she averaged 2.00 digs, 0.50 assists and 0.20 blocks per frame over the Panthers' two wins.
Miller, a redshirt sophomore, opened the cross country season with a great race for the Panthers as he led wire-to-wire to secure his first collegiate victory at Pitt's Yinzer Classic Friday night in Clinton, Pa. The Jenkintown, Pa., native crossed the finish line with a time of 18:47.5, nine seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from Carnegie Mellon. The Pitt men dominated the field as they posted a team total of 25 while Carnegie Mellon took second (34) and Youngstown State (81) placed third in the seven-team field.
