PITTSBURGH — Pitt baseball faces Akron on Friday, Oct. 15 and Youngstown State Friday, Oct. 22 both at Charles L. Cost Field for its fall ball schedule, head coach Mike Bell announced Thursday. The Panthers wrap up the fall with the annual Blue-Gold Series from Oct. 27-29.
"We are extremely excited to get to work over the next five weeks," Bell said. "We have a core group of returners with a lot of new talent that need to learn how to work together in order to become one unit. Our practice plans and outside competition will allow us to continue to develop and evaluate each and every day."
Fans can attend every game for free, and gates open an hour before first pitch. Both Akron and Youngstown State are slated for 6 p.m. first pitches.
Pitt had its first official team practice Monday. With 23 newcomers joining the program for the upcoming 2022 season, the Panthers return 16 players that includes six position starters and two starting weekend pitchers from its most successful season last spring since joining the ACC. The Panthers were ranked nationally for nine consecutive weeks, including its highest ranking at No. 14 by Baseball America.
