No. 5 Pitt Falls on the Road to Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 5 Pitt men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Wake Forest Friday night at Spry Stadium.
NEWS & NOTES
Pitt had a chance to tie, as sophomore Bertin Jacquesson sent a cross from left to right inside the box to Almeida, but Almeida's shot was saved by Trace Alphin. Wake Forest added their second goal of the game in the 24th minute off a header from a corner kick cross.
Both teams tallied six shots, while the Panthers led 5-3 in corner kicks after 45 minutes.
Wake Forest scored its third goal of the evening in the 69th minute. In 27 games played in the past two seasons, it was only the second game in which the Panthers trailed by three goals (Mar. 5, 2021 at North Carolina).
Pitt recorded its lone goal 11 minutes later, as Almeida found Petkovic from 18 yards out. Wake Forest's Leo Guarino was issued his second yellow of the game in the 85th minute and Pitt played a man up for the remaining five minutes but were unable to connect with the back of the net.
Both teams registered 13 shots, while the Demon Deacons had seven corners to the Panthers' six. Campuzano recorded four saves, his third match with four saves this year.
The Panthers conclude their three-match road trip next Saturday, Sept. 25 at nationally ranked Clemson. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. on ACCNX.

- Junior Veljko Petkovic scored his fifth goal of the season. He is now tied for seventh at Pitt in career points with 57.
