No. 3 Pitt Falls to West Virginia, 2-1

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The No. 3 Pitt men's soccer team fell to West Virginia, 2-1, on the road Monday evening at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
NEWS & NOTES
Both teams recorded four shots, while the Panthers totaled five corners to West Virginia's zero in the first half.
The Panthers came out aggressive in the second half, pressuring the Mountaineer defense and forcing a corner in the 49th minute. A minute later, junior Veljko Petkovic directed traffic downfield and found Löeffelsend on the right side 25 yards out. Löeffelsend crossed from right to left to the far post to Dexter, who used his left foot to find the back of the net.
Pitt nearly took the lead in the 67th minute, as freshman Guilherme Feitosa struck a ball from the top of the box that was saved with a diving effort by Mountaineer goalkeeper Steven Tekesky.
The Mountaineers regained the lead in the 76th minute, using a cross from right to left to the left post and heading it in for the goal. Pitt tallied three shots in the ensuing nine minutes, with junior Valentin Noel nearly connecting from inside three yards. The Panthers had a last minute attempt, as Petkovic missed a free kick wide right in the 89th minute.
Pitt outshot West Virginia, 13-10, and 9-3 in corners. Graduate student goalkeeper Nico Campuzano finished with four saves on the evening.
The Panthers are back in action Friday, Sept. 3 at home vs. Lehigh. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. on the ACCNX.

- Tonight's match was the 50th meeting between the Panthers and Mountaineers.
- Graduate student Alexander Dexter scored his first goal of the season – 19TH of his career - in the 50th minute. Classmate Jasper Löeffelsend also tallied his first assist of the season.
