Fisher to Lead 2021 U.S. Women’s U20 National Training Team

Pitt Volleyball Head Coach to Direct 20-Player Roster
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Pittsburgh volleyball head coach Dan Fisher will lead the 2021 U.S. Women's U20 National Training Team in July.
"Representing the United States is the highest honor in our sport for both coaches and athletes," Fisher said. "It is especially meaningful this year after not being able to compete in 2020. Our team is both experienced and talented. With this in mind we expect a spirited training block and competitive showing in Europe."
The Training Team will produce the 12-player roster that will compete in the 2021 FIVB Women's U20 World Championship held July 9-18 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Kortrijk, Belgium. All members of the Women's U20 National Training Team will participate in a training camp held June 28-July 8 at UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev., before the team is selected and travels to the competition site.
Fisher will be assisted by Jon Newman-Gonchar (head coach at University of New Mexico) and Jessica Aschenbrenner (assistant coach at Denver University). Jon Wong, assistant coach at Texas Tech, was selected to serve as technical coordinator.
In 2020, Fisher was tabbed to coach the U.S. Women's U20 National Training Team at the NORCECA Women's U20 Continental Championship May 10-17 in Edmonton, Canada. However, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the NORCECA event to be canceled. Additionally, the U20 training period was set for July 4-10, 2020, in Colorado Springs, but the continuing impact of COVID-19 prompted it to be canceled.
No stranger to the USA Volleyball pipeline, Fisher has coached multiple national programs over the course of his career. Most recently, in 2019, coached Pitt senior outside hitter Kayla Lund as part of the U.S. Collegiate National Team-Anaheim program. He has led two U.S. Women's National Teams to success on the international stage. As head coach of the 2015 U.S Women's National Team, Fisher led the squad to a gold medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Ontario, for the first time since 1967. The following year, he coached the team to a bronze-medal finish at the Pan American Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Fisher was an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for Team USA at the Pan American Cup in 2012, helping guide the team to a gold medal finish. On the men's volleyball side, he was an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2007 World University Games in Thailand.
