PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh softball team honored Team Impact player Rylee DiTullio and its seven seniors Saturday afternoon in a double-header against Florida State at Vartabedian Field.
NEWS & NOTES
The scoring for both teams did not start until the third inning, as Florida State (38-9-1, 26-5-1 ACC) got on the board first with three runs. The Panthers answered with two runs of their own after freshman Cami Compson singled and Seamans hit a two-run homer to centerfield, her 13th of the season. Pitt trailed 3-2 after three innings.
The Seminoles took a 4-2 advantage in the top of the fifth, as Josie Muffley grounded out to third base but scored a run in the process. In the bottom of the sixth, Compson opened the inning with a leadoff walk and Seamans reached via an error. Senior Hunter Levesque moved the runners over to third and second with a sacrifice bunt, setting up sophomore Bailey Drapola with a big opportunity. Drapola hit a two-run double over the right fielders head, scoring both Compson and Seamans and tied the game at 4-4.
Florida State broke the tie with one run in the top of the seventh as Anna Shelnutt hit an RBI single to right, scoring a run from second base.
The Panthers, who were down 5-4 last night in the bottom of the seventh before ultimately winning 6-5 on a walk-off homer, could not score a run as three strikeouts ended the game.
Seamans went 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored while Compson finished 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk.
