No. 10 Pitt Falls to No. 3 NC State 3-2 in ACC Tournament

CHARLOTTE – No. 10 seed Pitt (23-20) fell to No. 3 NC State (28-15) 3-2 in Pool C of the ACC Tournament Thursday night at Truist Field. Matt Gilbertson threw his first complete game as a Panther, allowing four hits, three runs and three walks with 20 strikeouts while producing 22 outs in the last 22 batters faced.
Pitt grabbed the lead in its first trip to the plate. Sky Duff led off with a single to centerfield. After stealing second base with two outs, he scored standing up on a double to left field by Ron Washington, Jr.
The Wolfpack manufactured all three runs in the second inning with a two-run triple followed by a wild pitch that allowed the runner to score.
The Panthers cut its deficit to one in the next inning. With one out, Duff again singled and stole second base. After an infield single from Nico Popa put runners on the corner, Washington, Jr. beat out a throw to first base for an RBI-fielder's choice.
Pitt put just three more runners on base the rest of the game.
The Panthers await the rest of their postseason slate with the NCAA Tournament selection show, which is slated for Memorial Day at noon on ESPN2. The double-elimination, four-team regionals start on Friday, June 4.

- Popa tied Sean Conley (2005-08) and Brad Rea (1999-02) for the fifth-most games played (201) and Danny Lopez (2007-10) for the ninth-most total bases (316) in program history.
- Duff extended his hitting streak to 13 games and reached base streak to 21.
- Duff's two stolen bases were a career-high.
